Timeline
I. Interviews
During face-to-face interviews, as part of the “next steps” conversation, advise all candidates of background clearance requirements.
The selected candidate for this position will be required to obtain background clearances prior to beginning employment. These clearances include:
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
- Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Background Check
II. Verbal Offer
As part of the verbal offer, please advise candidates of the background clearance requirements. This offer is contingent upon the successful completion of the following background clearances:
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
- Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Background Check
It can take several weeks to receive clearance results, so please initiate the process as soon as possible. You will receive an e-mail with detailed instructions for completing the required clearances. Online submission provides faster results, and is highly recommended, if possible. Please note that the results for all three clearances must be received and verified prior to your start date.
III. E-mail Sent Following Verbal Offer

IV. E-mail reminder prior to start date

- Template 1 – provisional hire
- Template 2 – adjust start date

- Recommend reminder no later than 2 weeks prior to start date
