Administrative Professional Series

The Administrative Professional Series (APS) is designed to equip administrative support professionals- in all areas of the University with comprehensive skills, resources, and other time-saving tools for meeting job challenges and achieving unit priorities. To meet the varied development needs of Penn State’s administrative support professionals, APS is offered as a multi-level program. Each level addresses the appropriate competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for success in this role.

Please note that there is no fee for Penn State employees to attend this program.

Level 1

Level 1 covers topics such as customer service, professionalism, writing skills, change, and communication. This interactive skills-based program also incldes a self-directed technology learning project based on a technology application of your choice. This combination of seminars and self-directed learning will provide support staff with skills and knowledge that they will implement immediately in the workplace.

Level 2

Level 2 seminars focus on topics such as HR policy, leadership, financial acumen, ethics, and diversity. This program allows for administrative professionals to further develop their competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities beyond the scope of their daily work activities.  To qualify for the level 2 program you need to have been in an Administrative role at the university for at least 2 years.  

** PLEASE NOTE** The level 2 program will run again in the fall of 2018.
