On February 29, 2012, Penn State’s Office of Human Resources will begin posting staff jobs on a daily basis, Monday through Friday, on the Employment Opportunities website, www.psu.jobs. This site has been renamed to reflect the new streamlined process that combines both the current internal job posting website (ISJ) and the external job posting website (PSSJ). By combining the websites, we will be able to post jobs simultaneously for both internal and external candidates, allowing Penn State to more quickly list current job openings and create diverse candidate pools.
Staff jobs will continue to be posted for a minimum of one week. Enhanced search features and filters will make it easier to search for opportunities. In addition, the Personalized Job Search feature provides e-mail notifications when jobs are announced that meet your specified criteria. These changes are the first steps in making the system more user-friendly, timelier, and more conducive to creating qualified and diverse candidate pools for open positions.
Why is Penn State making this change?
This change will provide job applicants with more frequent updates on job openings, provide hiring managers with the opportunity to fill positions in a more timely manner, and provide the University with the opportunity to create more diverse pools of qualified candidates.
When will new job announcements be posted on www.psu.jobs?
New job announcements will be posted on a daily basis, Monday through Friday. All job opportunities will include a posting end date, informing potential candidates of the deadline to submit materials.
Will current Penn State employees be considered for open positions prior to external candidates?
Hiring managers are encouraged to choose the best candidate for the position, whether that candidate is a current Penn State employee or external applicant. Since the jobs will now be posted to only one job site, there will not be a one-week internal posting prior to posting externally.
Do I need to check the Employment Opportunities site daily?
All job announcements will be posted for a minimum of one week. The posting will identify the job posting date and the deadline for applying. As an enhancement to the Employment Opportunities site, candidates will be able to specify job search criteria with the Personalized Job Search notification system. This feature allows a candidate to set search criteria based on specific employment interests. If a position is announced that matches the criteria, an e-mail notification will be sent that day.
